Ciao! I was born in Brooklyn and lived on Staten Island when I was younger. My family is Italian American. We celebrated the Night of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. My mother cooked shrimp, lobster, mussels, clams, scungilli, calamari, and crab. This tradition has been going on for over 50 years.

My greatest hardship has been that I don’t like to clean my apartment. The dust rolled in like tumbleweed during the COVID outbreak. Instead, I enjoy tidying up and organizing like Marie Kondo. One of my other challenges is that I act as the sole caregiver for my 84-year-old mother. On the cusp of turning 60 I find myself needing plenty of rest and adequate exercise. I engage in what Italians call dolce far niente [the sweetness of doing nothing] to wind down after a long day.

Today I’m an Author and Advocate whose life goal is to use my writing and public speaking to spread joy, love, peace, and understanding in the world. I delight in posting blog entries to my three blogs. You can read the blogs at www.christinabruni.com. My plan is to give in-person talks about topics in my new book Working Assets: A Career Guide for Peers – Finding and Succeeding at a Job Living with a Mental Illness.
